The Slovak Ball Hockey Union (SHBÚ) and the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH) have signed a co-operation agreement. This has begun the so-called process of combining the efforts of both elite hockey sports. The treaty was recently signed by the presidents of both unions, Martin Kohút and Jozef Stümpel, at the SZLH headquarter.
“We are pleased to have signed this long-term agreement. Ball Hockey is a complementary sport of many ice hockey players and many ice-hockey players are seen on ball hockey rinks, so the synergies are enormous and I believe that our cooperation will mainly serve both sports to evolve and grow,” Kohút said after signing the contract. Ice hockey and ball hockey will also work together in the field of marketing and advertising, which will also be reflected in organizing the 2019 ISBHF World Ball Hockey Championships being held in Košice after the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships. “The closest goals are the world championships, where ice hockey and ball hockey will be very well presented. I believe we will achieve successes, but we do not look at our cooperation in the short term. It’s a forward-looking move, and cooperation is essential. The future will show that we are moving in the right direction and we can truly support each other,” Stümpel added.
And what does this co-operation bring to ball hockey and its progress? The parties have agreed to actively search out partners for advertising and marketing co-operations to support ball hockey through an organization with many years of experience in sports marketing and advertising. The ambition is to increase the popularity of ball hockey, as well as to expand the commercial resources for SHBU, which will serve to support and develop Slovak ball hockey and Slovakia’s national teams.
This ISBHF is highly supportive of this agreement between both hockey unions and believes that this very important step is the first of many, in terms of building on the synergies of both prominent hockey sports worldwide.
