The ALPA European Junior Cup will take place on July 1-3 in Pardubice in the secondary rink of the Enteria Arena and in the Polabiny outdoor rink. Hosts Czech Republic, Great Britain, Slovakia and Switzerland will attend this European junior event.
One month ago, we announced that after the cancellation of the World Junior Championships in Žilina due to concerns of traveling teams regarding the security situation in neighbouring Ukraine, the Czech Ball Hockey Federation (ČMSHb) and the International Hockey Federation (ISBHF) would hold a substitute tournament for junior players who have lost several international championships due to the global pandemic. In order to add quality and competition to the event, the ALPA European Cup will also be attended by selections of U23 players from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, who are preparing for the World Championships in this age category taking place next year.
The ALPA European Cup, primarily intended for the U20 and U16 categories, will start on Friday, July 1, with the Czech Under-23 game against Great Britain. The tournament for the U16 category of players under 16 will open with an exhibition match between Great Britain and a selection of talented youth from the Czech Republic.
The U20 tournament has 6 teams that will play each other once in the round robin in a 2 x 15 minutes format, while games in the U16 round robin will be played in the standard 3 x 15 minutes format. Medal and Placement games on Sunday, July 3rd, will all be played in the 3 x 15 minutes format. All games will be broadcast live on the TVCOM.cz website or the Hokejbal TV YouTube channel. This will be finalized in the coming days.
