In the final B Pool game of the opening round, Haiti and Hong Kong clashed with important implications on the line. A win for Haiti would drop Hong Kong to fourth in their division while Hong Kong could salvage third with a clean win. Haiti was coming off a hard fought 1-0 win over Armenia while Hong Kong had incredibly, erased two third period 3-0 deficits only to lose their matches against Armenia and the Cayman Islands respectively in shootouts.
Haiti overplayed Hong Kong and are aiming high!
Captain Paul-Arthur Plasir opened the scoring for Haiti in the first period and they never looked back. Haiti tallied three more in the second with the Plaisir brothers each scoring once, and Cherubin also found the back of the net. Hong Kong looked to make another comeback in the third, with Son Pham scoring from the point on a 5-3 power play early on. The play continued to get chippy as the period progressed and it appeared that Hong Kong’s emotions took over however, as they took a penalty that led to a 5th Haitian goal scored by Lokki Kwan.
Haiti would score late and went on to win 6-2, and the initial round standings are now set as the teams look to make a move in the B3 and B4 rounds!
