The Italian National Women’s Ball Hockey Team has made noteworthy accomplishments since its inaugural international appearance in 2013. The Italian Women’s team won a silver medal in pool B at the 2013 World Championships in St. Johns, Newfoundland and had an overall 5th place finish at the 2015 World Championships in Zug, Switzerland.

In 2015, the Italian Women’s team had a 2-3-1 round robin record, putting them out of medal contention. The beat the host nation, Switzerland, 6-2 in front of a packed crowd and they held the silver medalists and current 2017 host nation Czech Republic to a 0-0 draw.

The Italian Women’s team look to build on this momentum for 2017. Their goal for 2017 is to bring home a medal. To accomplish this goal, the women’s program has been working very hard since the summer of 2016 to recruit and build a strong competitive team for 2017.

Just like there mail counterparts the Italian Women’s team broadened their search this year to find the most talented players. This year’s squad is a healthy mix of youth and experience, veterans and first-time world championship players. They have devoted numerous hours to training and entered a prep tournament where they advanced to the semi-finals. “I am very pleased with our performance at our prep tournament for Worlds”, said head coach Rick DiBiase. “The ladies are bonding and there was great chemistry out on the floor. Traditionally we’re the underdogs at Worlds, but this year in Czech Republic we plan to make some noise!”
